About Charlie
Charlie Banta Headshot.jpg

Charlie began his musical journey in 2011 by joining the acclaimed American Boychoir School (ABS) in Princeton, New Jersey. There he received world-class training as a choir member under the batons of Fred Meads and Fernando Malvar-Ruiz. He is trained in “moveable-do” solfege, a tool which he still uses to this day. At ABS, Charlie was exposed to music from around the globe – from Europe to Australia, Africa to Asia – and had the opportunity to tour South Korea and France. An especially unique experience was participating in the film, Boychoir (2014), directed by François Girard, featuring stars like Dustin Hoffman, Kathy Bates, and Kevin McHale. It was this formative choir experience that prompted him to begin composing in 2014.

Charlie is a graduate of Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, receiving his BA in Music Composition in 2022.

Post-graduation, Charlie teaches piano and music theory, and often accompanies choirs and soloists. When Charlie is not teaching, he is writing music for friends and planning future ambitious projects. His main focus now is to engage with his community and build a long lasting musical presence in his area.

Charlie is also a member of The Albemarle Singers (TAS), a Princeton-based a-cappella choir of professional and non-professional singers, conductors, and educators. In January, TAS premiered their first winter concert, in which Charlie's piece And the Word became flesh, received it's second performance in 2 months.

Charlie is also NJ-licensed real estate referral agent with Coldwell Banker, and currently serves the greater Somerset area.
